Preparations

Spring 2007 we already thought about doing a world-trip. Olli came up with the idea but before a decision was made Olli was suddenly interested in completely different things like real estate.

However, in January 2008 he realized that his real dream is travelling the world and not getting a slave of his belongings. Again we sat together for brainstorming and got a decision quite soon: we will go to the US in August, travelling from North to South America, further to Australia, New Zealand and have a finish in Asia. Olli wanted to travel for 2 years, I wanted to travel just one year. We agreed on one and a half year now.

By now our world trip became the “Pan Americana” because of the seasonal dependencies of the weather. If you do not want to get stuck in the middle of Alaska or freeze to death in Ushuaia you can either do this trip during 8 month time or you do it in one and a half year. Of course we do not want to hurry through all those wonderful places but have enough time for places, people and cultures. Therefore, we decided for the long version. On this trip our Bulli running on natural gas should have been our car. The environment would have been glad about this. Unfortunately, our VW Bulli (Transporter) cannot offer the comfort and living conditions you would need for such a tour. Therefore, we decided to buy a car in the United States.
